Expedition 25 marks the International Space Station's (ISS) 25th long duration mission. Expedition 25 begins with Soyuz TMA-18 undocking in Sept. 2010. Three new crew members will arrive shortly thereafter on TMA-01M. The "Alpha" symbol representing the ISS is made up of the shape of the original Space Shuttle Program (STS) emblem. The "Alpha" joins together with the "Omega" honoring the Space Shuttle Program and the last flight of an orbiter to the ISS after many years as the workhorse of the assembly process. The orbiter is shown on its way home to Earth for the last time. At the juncture of the "Alpha" and "Omega" is the mission designation "25." At the top overall, the ISS, assembly complete is orbiting the Earth. Behind the Earth, a new dawn is beginning... the ISS fully prepared to conduct new research. The "swoosh," in the color of the flags of the crew home countries, represents the arriving and departing of crew. The perspective (as seen from below), symbolizes all those who support this increment from the ground. The six stars represent the six crewmates. The two bigger stars: for each country, for each Soyuz launch, for each team. The words "ISS" are in both English and Russian and the names of the crew in their native language borders all around the patch. The insignia was designed by artists Tim Gagnon and Jorge Cartes.
